Falcons fight hard but lose 25-10 to the Warriors in PLFA debut
The Ruda Slaska Warriors got their first victory in nearly two years and spoiled the PLFA II debut of the Tychy Falcons with a 25-10 victory on Sunday afternoon in Zabrze. The Warriors surpassed their win total from last year (0) with the victory, which came in the season opener for both teams.
The win did not come easily for the Warriors, however. In fact, the Falcons led 7-3 midway through the first quarter when Grzegorz Dominik took a punt back 87 yards for a touchdown, trumping Andrzej Chojak’s earlier 23-yard field goal.
Ruda Slaska regained the lead shortly thereafter, on a short touchdown run by Pawel Szmandry, and they went into the locker rooms ahead 16-7 after Szmandry’s second touchdown, a 10-yarder in the second quarter. The Warriors added a safety and a Maciej Klimczak touchdown reception in the third quarter, before a Falcon field goal closed the scoring.
The Warriors will be looking to make it two wins in a row against PLFA II newcomers in their next game, when they take on the Czestochowa Saints on June 25. The game will be the home opener for the Saints. The Falcons, meanwhile, will stay on the road for their next contest, on June 26 against the 1-1 Krakow Knights.
