Warriors blank Czestochowa 30-0 to keep pace with Gliwice
The Ruda Slaska Warriors are bidding to become one of the breakout teams in PLFA II in the 2011 season, and that quest was helped along on Saturday afternoon by a 30-0 win over the debutante Saints in Czestochowa. With the win, the Warriors remained a half-game behind the Gliwice Lions near the top of the PLFA II South Division.
Czestochowa are winless in three tries this season, their first ever in official play. The Saints defense has not played too badly so far, but the offense has been anemic, scoring only nine points so far in those three games, the worst mark in PLFA II.
The Warriors went out to a 6-0 lead after a quarter of play on the strength of a 19-yard Andrzej Chojak to Kajetan Grochowski hook-up. They would score three more times before halftime to put the game away, including two touchdown receptions by Sebastian Tyrka. He also ran in for a score in the second half.
The two teams will meet again during the last week of the regular season. The Saints hope to have broken their maiden before then, however, and they will get their next chance to do so on July 10, when they host the Krakow Knights. The Warriors, meanwhile, will be in action a day earlier, traveling to Gliwice to take on the first-place Lions in a game that may well decide the regular-season winner of the South Division.
