The battle and excitement continues in Denmark’s top football league!

This season, Denmark’s National American Football League is producing more excitement than it has in years.

Although the gap between the top and bottom teams has been wide, this past weekend the Slagelse Wolfpack and Copenhagen Towers delivered the second overtime game of the season. The Triangle Razorbacks were superb in 2009, but lost the Mermaid Bowl to the Søllerød Gold Diggers. The Hvidovre Stars have the talent to surprise anyone while the Copenhagen Towers defeated the tough Søllerød Gold Diggers just before the summer break. So predicting this year’s football season in Denmark may not be as easy as many thought.

The Herlev Rebels and Aab 89'ers are not in the running this season but with two more teams set to join the National League in 2011 expect an even tougher league and schedule next year. Meanwhile, the Slagelse Wolfpack were a positive surprise in 2010 and hopefully the Aab 89'ers can follow in their footsteps.

The race in the National Conference still tight
In the Danish Conference the Hvidovre Stars and the Triangle Razorbacks are in a battle so suspense remains high there. The unbeaten Razorbacks are the favorites to play in the Mermaid Bowl and so both the Gold Diggers and Copenhagen Towers from National Conference would probably prefer playing the Stars in the semifinals.

The Søllerød Gold Diggers have won one more game than the Copenhagen Towers and remain first in the division. The Towers face the bottom dwelling Herlev Rebels twice and should prevail, but they also have one more game against the Gold Diggers and that may prove to be decisive. The Gold Diggers play the Kronborg Knights next, and should win that game, but then they have two tough games against the Towers and Razorbacks. So the National Conference standings will be decided by the final three games of the season as the Copenhagen Towers push Denmark’s defending champion Gold Diggers to the very end.
