Lions lose Kazmierczak, still ruin Czestochowa home opener 39-3
Pawel Klawender stepped in for an injured Marcin Kazmierczak on Saturday afternoon to lead the Gliwice Lions to a 39-3 victory over the Czestochowa Saints. The win was the second consecutive to start the season for the Lions, while the Saints have now dropped two straight to start their PLFA II existence.
The Lions went mainly to the ground game after the loss of Kazmierczak, who went down with a knee injury early in the first quarter. The extent of the injury is unknown, and it remains to be seen whether Gliwice will be with Kazmierczak’s services for the rest of the season.
Gliwice went up 13-0 at the end of the first quarter, thanks mainly due to the efforts of Tomasz Olczek, who caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Klawender before rushing for a 31-yarder. The Lions made it 19-0 in the second before the Saints, playing in their home opener, got their only points of the contest on a Bartlomiej Aulak field goal.
Klawender filled in well at quarterback for the Lions, directing an offense that would march into the Saints end zone three more times in the second half. Klawender would take in the final two of those scores himself, both from a yard out.
The Lions will be in action again on June 26, in the second of three straight road games in the PLFA II South Division. They will take on the Radom Rocks in that contest. The Saints, meanwhile, will play at home a day earlier, bidding for their first win ever against the Ruda Slaska Warriors.
