Mustangs blank Werewolves 48-0 in tuneup for Spartans matchup
The Plock Mustangs continued their winning ways at home on Sunday afternoon, dominating the visiting Warsaw Werewolves on both sides of the football to come away with a comfortable 48-0 victory that allowed the Mustangs to keep pace with the other Warsaw team, the Spartans, in the race for the PLFA II North Division title.
Six different players found the end zone for the Mustangs, who methodically wore down the still-winless Werewolves in clinching a postseason berth. The new team from Warsaw has been outscored by over 41 points a game this season, and the defeat represented their second consecutive shutout.
Plock led 30-0 after a very long first half that saw two significant delays due to injury. The Werewolves defense held their own for good parts of the game, although the offense was unable to do anything against a tough Mustang defense that has allowed only 12 points through four games this year. That defense recorded a touchdown and two safeties in the rout.
The Mustangs are still tied with the Spartans for the top spot in the North, and those two teams will fight it out for the division title in the next round of games. Warsaw will be at home for the clash, set for the evening of July 23. The second game in Warsaw that weekend will see the Werewolves host Husaria Szczecin the next day in their quest for a first-ever official PLFA victory. The Werewolves are currently alone at 0-4 in the North Division basement.
