Home: Ljubljana Silverhawks - 26
Away: Cineplexx Blue Devils - 2
The Blue Devils and the Silverhawks had met only once before. In 2009, when the Silverhawks were still the team with no imports and a shaky defense. The game itself was not even worth mentioning – Slovenian team was losing from the first whistle and the Blue Devils barely broke a sweat.
But this time it was different. The Silverhawks' stingy defense kept the Blue Devils in check all game and the Slovenians won 26-2, overtaking their opponent in the standings.
The Cineplexx Blue Devils arrived to Slovenia with a depleted squad of players because they had to split their squad due to the game in national championship on Sunday. Nevertheless, they brought the most important playmakers and American imports.
The Blue Devils started well, but failed to score in the red zone. It was a sign of things to come, as both teams struggled to score any points. Still, after several passes by Anthony Gardner to Bojan Justin it was Gardner himself, who scored on a quarterback sneak for the first points of the game and a 7 point halftime lead.
The defensive showdown continued in the second half, but the visitors not only failed to score this time, their mistakes led to points for the opponent. Desmond Hendricks intercepted a pass and scored untouched for a 13 point lead.
The Silverhawks managed to score again in fourth when Anthony Gardner hit Bojan Justin through the middle. Justin somehow managed to escape the secondary and speed through the last defenders into the endzone. Another missed PAT, something that looks like a developing proble for the Silverhawks, put them in a firm lead 20-0.
All hope was lost in the dying moments with a pass from replacement quarterback Lovro Gmajner to Justin again. It was Justin's second TD of the game and his third in the last two games. Yet another blocked PAT lead to the only points in the game for Blue Devils when they returned the ball into the Silverhawks end-zone.
Ljubljana got their second win of the season and also second place in the standings. The Blue Devils are now 1-2 and will get a chance of redemption on May 26th when Silverhawks visit Austria.
